The Mallee: A Journey Through North-West Victoria is both a portrait and a celebration of the small communities scattered across the region and the people who call them home.

A team of Australia’s leading rural documentary photographers, alongside writer Adam McNicol—who grew up in the Mallee town of Manangatang—set out to retrace the region’s railway lines to see what remains. The result is a stunning photographic collection featuring more than 150 full-colour images.

The book captures life in Mallee towns and on the surrounding farms, while also exploring the region’s growing appeal to visitors. In recent years, attractions such as the Silo Art Trail and Lake Tyrrell have drawn travellers to the area, breathing new life into a landscape now known for its spectacular sunsets and famously welcoming locals.
